Chebet led all the way to the end with fellow Kenyan runners Margaret Kipkemboi and Lilian Rengeruk.

With about two kilometers left, Chebet proved stronger than the rest and went clear to finish with beaming smiles all over her face.

Her win not only stamped her individual brilliance but that of Kenya in long-distance running.

After the race, Chebet shared her thoughts on realizing the golden double:

To do the 5,000m and 10,000m is not something easy. But just focus, and know that you can achieve.

I believed that I can do it.

Letsile Tebogo's Historic 200m Gold for Botswana

On the men's side, it was Botswana's Letsile Tebogo who stunned all by capturing gold in the 200m final with an eye-popping 19.46 seconds for a new African record. The 21-year-old rounded off in front of a stunned crowd after racing to victory ahead of favorite Noah Lyles, who had to drop the pace down as a result of Tebogo's scorching speed.

The victory gave Tebogo Botswana its first-ever gold at the Olympics—big for the young sprinter and his country alike. In a very emotional post-race moment, Tebogo dedicated the win to his late mother, Elizabeth Seratiwa, who passed away last May. He paid homage by donning her birth date on his spikes and painting her initials onto his fingernails. "She can be one of the happiest people on earth," Tebogo reflected, admitting his journey from doubt to triumph.
