State House Warns Budget Cuts Could Halt Operations, Calls for Reconsideration

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 18, 2024 — In a stern warning, State House has sounded an alarm that its operations could grind to a halt following massive budget cuts after the 2024/2025 Finance Bill was thrown out. The shocking revelation comes even as State House's budget was cut by 54% from Ksh.9.496 billion to Ksh.4.382 billion.

State House Comptroller Katoo Ole Metito took it negatively and used important words in raising concerns over the impact of these reductions.

While addressing the Committee on Administration and Internal Security on Thursday, Metito said that the cuts would hurt State House operations very badly.

The State House budget has been reduced by 54%, from Ksh.9.496 billion to Ksh.4.382 billion, which will have a huge impact on the running of State House, Metito said.

He pleaded with the committee to reconsider the huge cuts on the allocation since the funds are urgently needed to ensure State House remains in operation.

The warning has come amidst heated debates over the 2024/2025 Finance Bill, highly opposed and that has resulted in sweeping budget cuts across various government sectors, whose implications of such reductions are now emerging particularly on critical state functions.

The appeal from State House underlines the urgent need for a balanced approach to the allocation of the budget. Ensuring continuity in core government operations, the taxpayer is faced with addressing fiscal challenges efficiently.
