Ruto Appoint Patrick Mwiti Aranduh as s the New Prisons Commissioner General

NAIROBI, 24 July, 2024 – President William Ruto has extended his full support to the newly appointed Prisons Commissioner General, Patrick Mwiti Aranduh. 

Speaking at State House on Wednesday, after Aranduh took the oath of office, President Ruto emphasized the importance of diligent management and ongoing reforms within the country's correctional facilities.

I want to pledge and commit my support and that of the entire government to you and the prison service as you undertake the great transformation you want of the Prison Service, President Ruto stated. He highlighted the critical role of leadership in ensuring that the Prisons Service operates in the best interest of the country and continues to progress with its reform initiatives.

The President underscored his expectations for Aranduh’s leadership in contributing to Kenya’s 15 billion trees initiative.

There is a very big project we are undertaking of tree planting and I will be very keen to see what the Prison Service will do in contributing to this very important program, Ruto said.

Additionally, President Ruto pointed out the Prisons Service's involvement in food production. He expressed his hope that all arable land under the service would be utilized for this purpose, benefiting both the prisons and the nation. 

It is my expectation of you to make sure every arable land under the Prison Service is put under food production for purposes of supplying food to the prison service and by extension to the country, he remarked.

President Ruto also congratulated Aranduh on his new role, expressing his eagerness to work closely with him. Aranduh, who succeeds Brigadier (Rtd) John Kibaso Warioba, brings a wealth of experience to the position. 


Before his appointment, he served as Director of Planning and Development for the Prison Service and held various other roles, including duty officer, court officer, officer in charge of various prisons, Regional Commander Central, Deputy Director of Planning and Development, and Director of Logistics.


As Aranduh steps into his new role, the nation looks forward to his leadership in driving significant reforms and contributing to key national initiatives under the support and guidance of President Ruto.
