NAIROBI, Kenya – President William Ruto has appointed a first batch of Cabinet Secretaries to replace the lot that was fired in the landmark announcement on July 11, 2024, following weeks of anti-government protests led by the youth.
Kindiki, Duale, Chirchir Comeback |
In a press address at State House on Friday, the Head of State said the 11 nominations – including the Attorney General – followed consultations across the political divide as an attempt to return peace and sanity to the country.
On the list, however, were six formerly sacked CSs who now make a comeback to different ministries, except Prof. Kithure Kindiki and Aden Duale, who retained their former designations.
Why the Comeback?
The decision to reinstate six former Cabinet Secretaries to new roles while retaining Kindiki and Duale within their previous roles insinuates a tactical move by President Ruto.
The move of reinstatement can, therefore, be construed to be taking advantage of experience and familiarity to stabilize this government in the midst of unrest, therefore reassuring the public and political stakeholders that there is continuity and expertise within its administration.
This mix of continuity and fresh appointments is hoped to address the current challenges while maintaining a sense of stability and confidence in the capability of the government to manage the affairs of the nation.
